After two underground albums, the official album arrives: Ido Portal- “Shimha bekoli”

by yossi January 23, 2009

Ido Portal, age twenty, was born in the settlement of Netzarim which is located in
the Katiff area. As a child he had moved to Kibbutz Meirv at the north of Israel where
he lives today. Until recently he has studied in the university preparatory program in
Eli, and today he serves as a soldier in the Israeli Defense Force.
After two singles, two underground albums, and numerous musical bands which he
has established, Ido Portal now launches his official, full new album. Ido Portal has
already accomplished his musical dream at a very young age when he created,
composed and produced original songs with his cousin. Later on, he had already
started playing with improvised bands which included young, ambitious and talented
players. Ido Portal plays the guitar with great passion and talent. He expresses
himself and his voice as well as his personal non-conformist expressions into the
music. Ido Portal’s lyrics come from Jewish religious books even though they’re only
mentioned in passing. However, there are always words and letters which are full of
faith, and which were carefully chosen as words of belief ,’,.1/ 3145-.14′ , ‘,-./ 012′)
’18425 892′ ,’6 7-74′. They direct the listener to prayer and belief, according to the
ability of each person to get closer to God.
The music that Ido Portal has written has not always been Jewish and religious. As a
teenager, he appeared in music clubs in Tel Aviv with songs that he had written. The
lyrics were remote from traditional Judaism, to say the least. As he grew older, Ido
Portal has neglected that type of music and focused on a religious music. ‘It made
me happier. I was able to work in different musical directions and I have really
started to enjoy the creative process,’ explains Ido Portal.
The current album ‘Hear My Voice’ was created during a long recuperation period
from a painful fracture in his arm. It was an injury which occurred during a course in
the army. Playing the guitar in spite of the pain and the restricted movement has
assisted in the process of the rehabilitation of the arm after the injury. Later on, Ido
Portal will explain that the album was the most effective and proven physical therapy
treatment. In parallel to launching the album, Ido Portal and his band are starting a
well-planned show that carries the name between ‘The Holy and the Secular’ in
which they perform original songs and remakes of known songs by Rabbi Shlomo
Karlibach.
The album is released by Hindik Productions.
