It’s hard for most of us to imagine the torrents of turbulent thoughts that swirl through the minds of those who have fallen victim to the lure of drugs, mesmerized by the promise of a temporary respite from a life where sleep is elusive and even daytime is filled with terrifying darkness. As substance abuse continues to shatter the innocence of the Jewish community, taking the lives of more than 370 young men and women over the past two years, the war against drugs wages on, a valiant battle to turn the tide by raising awareness and providing life saving assistance to those in need.

In an all new music video presented by Amudim and produced by Sparks Next in association with Olam Media, DeScribe reaches out with the hard hitting Set Me Free, a powerful look at the world of addiction and the all-consuming need to escape reality, often with tragic consequences. An upbeat promise of hope, Set Me Free is a reminder that even those who feel trapped by addiction can take control of their lives and liberate themselves by seeking professional help.

“It’s hard for anyone who gets sucked into the world of addiction to imagine that there is a way out, even when they hit rock bottom, but our caseworkers are on call around the clock and are ready to save lives,” said Rabbi Zvi Gluck, director of Amudim which has serviced over 3,800 people, including 1,800 suffering from addiction, over the past three and a half years. “We have lost too many people, shed too many tears and seen too many families destroyed by grief.”

A project eight months in the making, Set Me Free was intensely personal for both DeScribe, a recovering addict who attempted to take his own life on more than one occasion, and for filmmaker Daniel Finkelman, who co-directed the video with Aharon Orian. Having seen firsthand how a life of drugs can often be a prelude to suicide, Finkelman knew that despite the sensitivities involved, the time had come to address the issue head on, giving hope to those whose very existence seems too much to bear. A stunning look at a world where all seems lost and whispers of death beckon enticingly from the shadows, Set Me Free is a lifeline to those in need, letting them know that they are not alone and that help is just a phone call away.
