In honor of Aaron Razel‘s upcoming tour, yesterday he released this music video of the hit song “Asarah Anashim” of his latest album Kavati Et Moshavi. The video was filmed and directed by Ayal Tzion, script written by Ayal Tzion, Aharon and Efrat Raizel and filmed in the Nachlaot neighborhood and in the Machane Yehuda Shuk/Marketplace.
A few things you wouldn’t know otherwise about this video:
-It is a combination of three stories in one song.
-When it says “Taviu li asarah anashim”, which is a statement by R’ Ahron of Kotzk, it really means “Mi La’Hashem Eilai”
-This is telling Ahron’s personal story. When he first got to his yeshiva in Tzfat, and met the Rosh Yeshiva there, he was very impressed by how the Rosh Yeshiva was a person who goes against the flow and is out of the box.
-In the song there’s a reference to another true story about a woman from his neighborhood who has many pains and troubles, and the only thing that gives her relief is from looking out her window and seeing people going to learn Torah.
-Some people wonder what the connection between the three stories is and Ahron explains that its about finding the inner world of truth and striving for a life against the flow of things.
-Despite the “modernity” in his lyrics, the song caught on very well amongst the “Litvishe” yeshivas and bochurim would come and sing the song excitedly with him.
-This song is one of Razel’s more personally emotional songs. He calls it “a work composed of a statement, a personal story, and a story about someone else.”
-Aharon was at first very embarrassed about filming the video in the middle of the street, but as it went on, he became more and more comfortable, until he almost forgot where he was! People came over to him and were telling him how much they enjoyed listening to his new album Kavati.
