8th Day: The Sequel Review, Pix + Video

by yossi August 07, 2012

by: Mini Z (Jacob Friedman)

After a year of touring, recording, releasing a new album, and giving it “all they got”, the brothers behind Ya’alili returned to the Vacations @ Kutshers Resort for another sell-out performance – Motzei Shabbos Nachamu. Just when you thought Shmuely and Bentzi Marcus of 8th Day were at the height of their career, they took their act to a whole new level! Their remarkable new sound and lyrics put them back at the top of the charts, gaining 8th Day even more notoriety.

The Stardust Room was once again filled to capacity as 8th Day fans and groupies swarmed the aisles. As the lights dimmed, emcee Chaim Kiss entered the stage, entertaining the crowd with his good sense of humor as he introduced the opening act, world renowned Chazzan, Yanky Lemmer (along with Eric Freeman, assistant director of the Belz School of Jewish Music who accompanied him on keyboard). Chazzan Lemmer explained that the Borscht Belt was the home of Chazzunus back in the day. He thrilled the audience with his operatic voice causing nostalgia for the old timers. Following Chazzan Lemmer’s piece ( Geyt Der Goywas) was the newest, youngest talent who also happens to be the younger brother of 8th Day… Eli Marcus! Eli came out to his uncle’s (Avraham Fried) newest hit, Hofachta proceeded by Ana Bakoach. Upon returning from Eretz Yisroel, with remaining emotions from the trip, he felt it appropriate to sing Just One Shabbos hoping for the day that all Jews will unite together in the land of Israel. Continuing with that message, he ended his set with his cousin’s (Benny Friedman) Mi Shemamin.
In the words of Chaim Kiss “Kutshers Rocks” and without further ado he introduced the headlining act, “ E-I-G-T-H D-A-Y”! With the monumental event, the Siyum HaShas just days behind us it was only befitting to kick off their world tour with T.T.D.F. – Mazel Tov. 8th Day is still as vibrant and energetic as the day they started. While the brotherly duo sang several songs from their previous album, Chasing Prophecy, they also performed many new grooves off their latest album, All You Got, which got the crowd all riled up. Their setlist consisted of hits such as It’s Shabbos Now, Emosai, Yiddish Country, Bounce, Manhattan 2.0, and All You Got. One thing all Yidden have in common is our forefather, Avraham. That selection was the highlight since it touched the crowd deeply and had many swaying along with their lit up phones.
Long time drummer of 8th Day’s band, Rosy Rosenquist is a top notch performer as well as a highly experienced drummer. All stopped as we took a ‘moment of silence’ while Rosy showed off his skills in a solo drum ensemble. You couldn’t hear a pin drop as all listened on. The grand finale got the crowd roaring! Eli accompanied his brothers and we all Ya’alili’d. The room felt electric as everyone was on their on feet, clapping and singing along. A large group of boys even joined on stage heightening the excitement.
Bentzy and Shmuely possess a unique and unusual style which sets them apart from the rest. These two have much Simchas HaChaim and this quality will get them very far in their endeavors. The most admirable trait is there perseverance in maintaining their golden style while fusing the most modern sounds. 8th Day is on an uphill road to success!

Look out for some amazing music videos to be released in the near future!
