SEATTLE, WA, August 6, 2014:
Amongst the anti-Israel sentiment that surrounds modern pop culture and what feels like most artists; the delusion of Israeli occupation, misguidance, and outright lies, rap artist Nissim seeks to bring a message of tachles, purpose and tikvah, hope with his release of “Yerushalayim”. Suitably named to encourage listeners to recall the ultimate goal of the nation of Israel, to bring the Jewish Messiah, usher in the messianic and rebuilt “Spiritual” Jerusalem. Nissim believes that as a Jewish artist that appeals to the secular world, its his responsibility is to stand up against the Israeli opposition and the anti-Semitic movements, which are rising daily. His hope is that he can reach those with an open ear and mind. While so many other popular
Jewish artists have chosen to remain silent with regards to the current social climate, Nissim has teamed up with Baltimore’s Eric Gerstenfeld to capture music rich in heart and full of substance, attacking the mindset of anti-Semitism.
“Fight for the truth/Fight for the real/ignore the opposing arguments filled/With safek like Amalek/We eat it up like an omelet/And swallow it.” On “Yerushalayim,” Nissim reaches his point of truth at the top of the second verse. Through a settled union of energy and confidence, Nissim gives it raw. The song is somewhat an emotional roller coaster, going from the smooth and longing voice of Gerstenfeld and quickly jumping to the emotional and passionate Nissim. Distraught over the current State of Israel, Nissim delivers with power, strength, and assurance in his final line, “We’ll lay a brick and Mashiach will finish it”.
