It has been a busy few months since South African Lubavitcher Choni Goldman took the title of “Jewish Star” of Season 3 of the international singing competition.
And he’s working on something big to show for it.
Following a string of impressive performances to diverse audiences, Goldman flew to New York to record an original debut single.
The song was composed and produced by the renowned singer, songwriter and producer Eli Gerstner, but no details were given as to its name or style.
For that you’ll have to wait until after the summer.
Until then, you might get lucky and be in the crowd when Goldman gives one of his now often performances.
He had a solo performance at the Joburg Theatre in June, which showcased his eclectic mix, drawing on different ethnic and cultural streams of music.
The sold-out crowd was ecstatic over his free-flowing style and comfortable stage presence which so endeared him to both the judges and the audience at the Jewish Star finale concert in New York this past March.
Another notable gig of Goldman’s was at a Yom Yerushalayim concert in Johannesburg, alongside singer Dovid Gabay from New York. The two sang alone and in duet in front of thousands.
Between numbers, Choni also provided some history and background of the songs, adding depth and making it a meaningful spiritual evening as well.
And for those who missed him live, there was an interview with him on the Simcha channel SABC on South African television.
