Good to his word, JMR’s Mendel “the Sheichet” put in a submission for season 2 of a Jewish Star. While quite different and more mainstream than last year’s submission, his audition is still in the simple, straightforward style we’ve come to expect. What are his prospects of winning? “Who cares?” says Mendel “the main thing here is that I get to show a different side of myself to the world at large. It’s a great opportunity for exposure and people would do well to stop thinking about what their chances are at winning and just see the great opportunity the contest is for every single entrant”
Any surprises this year? “I was pleasantly surprised by the variations in styles presented so far.” says Mendel “I see a few entrants already who hold some strong promise for the future. I was also surprised though – and a little disappointed – in the fact that so far I’m the only one of last year’s contestants to audition again. I know Gershon Shapiro is iy”h submitting again and I hear it will be something very different. I’m really looking forward to hearing his audition and I sincerely hope that some of the others from last year are planning to audition again as well. Instead of being down-hearted about last year’s results, they should be focusing on how much exposure each of them got – win or lose, this a a very positive thing and a big opportunity”
